Where Laughter, Love, and Seduction Collide

He Seemed Interested for Months. Then I Asked Him Out.

HotWife Diaries, October 2026

The day after I gave him a handmade farewell gift, he told me he couldn’t go out with me. He didn’t want to change the relationship we already had. I accepted his answer. What I haven’t managed to settle is how to remember the four months before it.

We had worked together for more than six years. I’m 37; he’s 30. For most of that time, we were colleagues with our own familiar ways of doing things. Then his attention seemed to shift, and I began noticing him noticing me.

He appeared to copy what I ate and drank, and sometimes what I wore. He said we liked the same things and looked alike. At first I thought the similarities were coincidences. As they kept happening, they became part of why I wondered whether something between us had changed.

There were more direct moments, too. He tried to hold my hand and hug me, but only with other people around. When we were alone, he didn’t touch me. After a moment of closeness, he often seemed to step back the following day. He wasn’t cold or dismissive; he simply didn’t come closer again. That difference kept me wondering instead of letting the possibility fade.

He waited around after work, made playful gestures, and shared jokes that belonged to the two of us. Sometimes he stumbled near me, and his friend teased him about it. When I thanked him for helping me, he could stare without answering. I read those moments as possible nervousness. I still don’t know whether that reading was right.

Alongside all the things I was trying to interpret, there was a quieter familiarity. He remembered details I’d mentioned weeks earlier and returned to conversations we hadn’t finished. He knew how I worked and sometimes started helping with the next task before I asked. After so many years together, there was an ordinary explanation for some of that. It also felt good to be paid attention to so closely.

I even watched a recording a teammate had made of a meeting and noticed him following my movements with his eyes. He looked more relaxed in the video than he often seemed around me. Seeing it from the outside made the attention harder for me to dismiss, but a recording could show me where he looked, not what he meant.

Our working relationship was ending, so the question stopped being something I could put off indefinitely. By then, my feelings had grown. I wrote him a personal letter telling him how comfortable I’d felt working with him and how much I valued him beyond what he could do at work.

The gift was a small figure tied to one of our inside jokes. I wanted it to be something specifically for him. When he received it, he asked why he was getting it—whether it was just because. He accepted it. The next day came his answer about going out.

I didn’t ask him to explain the months of attention. He sometimes seemed uncomfortable discussing feelings, and I didn’t want to push after he’d said no. He might have felt attraction without wanting a relationship, or understood our closeness differently from the beginning. I have no way to choose between those possibilities for him.

I haven’t contacted him privately since. We never dated, and I no longer see him at work. I still have feelings for someone I knew for years, and questions about a closeness I thought was becoming something else.
