He Said He Wanted Another Date—Then Went Silent

HotWife Diaries, November 2026November 2026

Three days after he stopped replying, I sent the message that ended my side of the conversation. I wished him well. I also told him I hadn’t appreciated hearing so much about honesty and communication from someone who then left me without either. It was a firmer message than the one I’d sent after our date, when I’d simply wanted to thank him.

I’m 34, and he’s 35. Before we met, what drew me toward him was the sense that we cared about the same things: communicating clearly, being honest, dating with some intention. Those words mattered to me. They suggested that even if the attraction wasn’t there, we could handle that like two adults. I wasn’t expecting a relationship before we’d even had a date. I was expecting the conversation to match the person.

During the date, he said he wanted to see me again. To me, it felt deliberate, rather than the polite suggestion people sometimes make while saying goodbye. That distinction is part of why this caught me off guard. I understood him to be expressing interest, not just trying to get through an awkward ending.

Afterward, I messaged to thank him, and he replied that he’d enjoyed my company. So there wasn’t an immediate silence for me to interpret. There was a warm response that seemed to fit what he’d said in person. I tried to keep the conversation going. Then he didn’t reply for three days.

One date is one date. He was allowed to decide he didn’t want another, including after saying that he did. I can make room for someone changing his mind. What hurt was having to work out for myself that the conversation might already be over, after he’d given me reasons to think it was continuing.

I don’t know whether he meant those things when he said them or whether saying them simply came easily. Silence can’t tell me that. In my final message, I called it lying about his values, because that was how the mismatch felt from my end. But I can describe what he did more confidently than I can explain why he did it: he talked about communication, responded positively after our date, and then stopped answering.

There’s a peculiar imbalance in that kind of ending. The person who stops replying gets to leave the conversation without saying anything uncomfortable. The other person is left deciding how much silence counts as an answer. I wasn’t asking him for a detailed assessment of me or a defense of his preferences. A brief message saying he didn’t feel a connection would have been disappointing, but at least I would have known where I stood.

Sending my own goodbye gave me something definite to say. It didn’t make the hurt disappear. I was glad I hadn’t spent more time on someone whose actions felt so different from his words. I was also hurt and blindsided. Those feelings arrived together; being relieved about the time I hadn’t lost didn’t cancel the disappointment over what had happened.

My first message had thanked him for the date. My last wished him well and told him why I was upset. In between, he’d said he enjoyed my company. That was the last reply I had to go on.
